The Arrow//Spine Blog for Being Better.

Information, Science, and Intriguing Insights into the Body and Mind.

In my practice, perfect health and total spiritual well-being are ideals. That is, they are often untethered from the reality of what it is our bodies and brains have to go through on a daily basis to keep up the basic duties of human life.

Say you are struggling with pain from a repetitive task you have do everyday for a living. Everyday, you do this same thing that is causing damage to your body, yet if you don't do it, you could loose your livelihood. In circumstances like this, we end up in a state of paralysis between two impossible decisions; quitting my job, or continuing to work with excruciating pain, that will only get worse.

In these situations, it is no use telling ourselves what we should be doing, or how we should be feeling, because the reality is, we are miserable, hurting, and likely depressed from the unfortunate circumstances. In this case, starting the journey of making SMALL, INCREMENTAL STEPS towards less pain, will also lead to a better mindset, and an ability to better deal with the rigid demands of everyday life.

This is where Manual Therapy comes in...

My unique style of deep functional bodywork is based on the core principles of many healing modalities; the body has the ability to heal itself. With the right kind of input and assistance from a knowledgable and trusted professional, your body can work itself back to a place of homeostasis, and help achieve a balance between your reality and your ideal.

It is an unrealistic ideal, in our world, to think that we can fix it all ourselves, or that we have to go on suffering out of pride. Just as we would we call on other professionals, for example, to help fix the air conditioning or the plumbing in our house, we can do the same for the complex and intricate systems of our own bodies.
