Why I care about Bitcoin (Enough to Bore You With its Principles)

If you follow my Instagram, or have viewed my website before, you will have (hopefully) noticed my slight obsession with Bitcoin. While I am fully aware that it is not widely utilized, can be highly volatile (although its gains are proven), and to many just plain not make sense, there are some fundamentals to the principle behind What Bitcoin Is Really About that I feel are essential to share with my clients and my community.
“In a society where we offload every bit of our liability and personal holdings to insurance companies and banks, bitcoin represents a shift to a world without unnecessary intermediaries”.(https://write.as/eugenesparrow/what-is-it-about-bitcoin-really).
What does that mean, how does that influence my practice and how could that affect YOU?
At the very core of Bitcoin, and the reason why it was developed, was the idea that one could have full, unrestricted ownership of their assets. Sure, at first, these assets were an obscure and mysterious non-tangible “coin” that didn’t have very much value (hence, the Pizza bought with 10,000 BTC 15 years ago this week), but in 2025 it is pretty hard to deny that Bitcoin has proven its worth, and is ostensibly here to stay for the long-term.
But what is happening to Bitcoin as mass-adoption ensues is obscuring the original intention of the King of All Cryptos in the first place. It was built with the sole concept that YOU and ONLY YOU could be the arbiter of your digital property. No banks, no credit companies, NO INTERMEDIARIES would be necessary, or would even be able to intervene or interfere.
But this involves the one idea that society is having a hard time grasping; in order to truly be in posession of your property, you (and only you) are the one that can be trusted to keep the keys. With Bitcoin, there is no asset protection or “Forgot My Password” button. The only backup, and the only security for the future, is dependant upon the one you built for yourself. This is a scary thought. We have all heard the stories (aimed to create FUD) about the lost bitcoin wallet worth millions. Those people were either not aware, not educated, or not responsible enough to understand the gravity of what FULL RESPONSIBILITY really meant.
So when I try to educate about bitcoin, my aim is more to educate about the principles of private ownership of one’s personal life, and about how peer-to-peer transactions, and permissionless systems based on proof and transparency can lead us to a more gratifying future.
When you stop letting insurance and liability risks determine your life choices, or credit card companies and banks grading your financial worthiness, than you can start making decisions for yourself and taking ownership of your own future and long-term well being. Full-Ownership of life, and Self-Responsibility for one’s own future are ways to alleviate much of the financial disempowerment and general depression that is currently running rampant in our society.
Take ownership. Turn your Bitcoin into Bodywork at ArrowSpine Manual Therapy, and start living a more self-supported and self-directed life.
